About Provence
France is well known for its history and hand in the production of wine. France has many notable and world renowned regions; its oldest region is Provence (viniculture here dates back almost 2600 years). Provence is located in the south-east of France, bordering along Italy. Before becoming famous for producing rosé (roughly 75% of the wine produced in Provence is rosé), Provence was first known to be home to some of the earliest human habitants. Talk about history! Archeologists have excavated human tools dating back to 600,000BC – that’s a long time ago! Although civilization has advanced dramatically since then, blending history with current wine production is important. Many wineries in Provence incorporate stories regarding the Middle Ages, capturing of land, and development of infrastructure which have all lead the region to be where it is today. Present day tourists can expect to experience stretching lavender fields surrounding stunning old castles and abodes, sunny weather, cascading coastlines and beautiful nature. Visitors who enjoy art, farmers markets, and wine tasting would have the time of their life in this historic region.
