About Romania
Resting on the Black Sea and nestled between Hungary and Bulgaria is a mid-sized country called Romania. Romania is best known for Bran Castle (also known as Dracula’s Castle), famously linked to the fictional blood-sucking character Dracula. There are many other castles to explore, some tucked along rolling hills and lush mountain ranges. The second-highest mountain range in Europe, a section of the Carpathians, is located in Romania. This range is known for its diverse wildlife, including wolves, lynxes, bears, and even chamois—a goat-antelope native to the European mountains. Romania is also recognized for its production of Cotnari wines from the Cotnari region (pronounced “coat-nar”). Wine was first recorded in Cotnari around 1250, but it wasn’t until the 1800s that the region’s sweet wines began to gain recognition. If you don’t find yourself drawn to Cotnari, there are plenty of other incredible sites to visit, including what’s known as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world—Bigar Cascade Falls. Ever heard of Decebalus? It’s the largest rock sculpture in Europe and located just a couple of hours from Bigar Cascade Falls. Visitors can book a tour that includes both of these breathtaking landmarks.
