About Hawaii

Ah Hawaii, the tropical island paradise in the middle of the South Pacific characterized by its famous beaches, active volcanoes and world famous surf. It is the quintessential honey moon spot for many reasons. Hawaii has it all, whether you’re an adrenaline junky, a nature enthusiast or a beach lounger you’ll be saying “Mahalo” in no time. This archipelago is made up of 8 main islands with numerous additional islands and islets contributing to its immense beauty. Striking blue water combined with white sandy beaches and a lush tropical canopy it’s no surprise that Hawaii has been the location for many blockbuster films such as Jurassic Park and Tropic Thunder! After a long day snorkelling with sea turtles or hiking the Na Pali Coast settle down with a glass of Hawaiian Wine. Much like its geographical size, Hawaii’s wine culture is hardly vast but its definitely unique and far from traditional. Commercial wine production in Hawaii began in the mid 1970’s with the opening of Maui Wines in Maui. Located on the side of a dormant volcano this winery put Hawaiian wines on the map with their famous Hula o Maui sparkling pineapple wine! Other wineries have since followed suit and the exotic nature of the island has been translated into a mosaic of modern Hawaiian wines. Along with traditional European grape varietals, Hawaiian wineries are experimenting with different fruit wines and fruit blended wines that introduce tropical flavours such as guava and papaya to the delighted consumer. There are even wines made from the honey of macadamia nut flowers! Hawaiian viticulture may be young but its slowly but surely putting together something wonderful and giving you yet another reason to visit and possibly call the islands your new favourite wine destination. Cheers!..or how the Hawaiians say Hippa Hippa!
